Legacy Survey to Identify and Characterize Disks with Inner Dust Holes


Transitional disks homogeneously selected from the large Spitzer photometric sample of the “Cores 2 Disks” program (c2d) where observed with the Spitzer/IRS.

A global transitional disk fraction of 4 to 12 % of young stars is computed for the whole catalog, relative abundance of silicate features from the disk and accretion signatures from the star are found. The hole sizes are compatible with the current semi-major axes of most known extrasolar planets and seem to scale linearly with the stellar mass of the central star.
